Transitions® Adaptive Sunwear Broadens Exposure to Adaptive Lens Technology Through Sports Club Events, Partnerships and Social Media

PINELLAS PARK, Fla., July 15, 2015 – Recognizing the power of a hands-on product experience, Transitions® adaptive sunwear, a line of automatically adjusting sunglass lenses and shields from Transitions Optical, Inc., is partnering with athletic clubs and sponsoring sports events to give members and participants the opportunity to experience best-in-class adaptive lens technology during their favorite outdoor sport activities, including running and cycling races and triathlons. Incorporating product giveaways and on-site product demonstrations, the partnerships are designed to give members a chance to try adaptive sun lens technology prior, during and following club events. Members are encouraged to share their experience on social media, further extending the reach of local events.

“These relationships allow us to take the Transitions sunwear product experience directly to some of the most highly engaged local sports clubs in the country,” said Larissa Bryan, director, sunwear, Transitions Optical. “What some don’t know is that the same Transitions eyeglass technology they’re already familiar with is also available in sunglasses made specifically for outdoor sports, like cycling and running. It’s clear that when people have a chance to experience adaptive sun lens technology, they immediately see the benefits.”

The Transitions adaptive sunglasses line, featuring lenses that automatically adjust the level of tint and color as the light and weather changes, includes several products specifically designed for cycling and running, including Dragon® Enduro X sunglasses, Oakley® Transitions® sunglasses and Nike® MAX Transitions® speed tint sunglasses.

Beginning in April, teams from Transitions adaptive sunglasses have joined cycling and running clubs in St. Petersburg, Florida, Austin, Texas and Chattanooga, Tennessee, to provide adaptive sun lens technology demonstrations at their events. Specifically:

  • • St. Pete Bicycle Club (St. Petersburg, FL)Transitions adaptive sunwear served as the title sponsor to St. Pete Bicycle Club’s “Spring Classic” event, where the 300 riders could ride 20-, 36-, 60- or 100-miles through St. Petersburg.
  • • Couples Triathlon (Austin, TX) – With over 600 in participation, Transitions adaptive sunwear served as the Official Sponsor of the “Couples Triathlon,” hosted by High Five Events. The event featured a sprint triathlon of 500 meter swim, 11.2 mile bike and 3.1 mile run, and a sprint aquabike of 500 meter swim and 11 mile bike.
  • • Run Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN)Transitions adaptive sunwear was the official sponsor of the “Burn Your Half Off” half marathon, where the 150 participants ran 13.1 miles through a laid-back multi-loop trail.

“We are excited to partner with Transitions Optical this year,” said Dan Carroll, race director, Couples Triathlon. “Triathletes are known for always bring on the go, and here in Texas, that means being ready for any type of weather at any time. Transitions adaptive sunglasses are perfect for making sure they have the advantage of being prepared for sun, clouds and everything in between.”
